No. Lawyers will only help with the Florida Bar`s prose forms and help to understand the entire legal process. They will help with all the memories that the person has received. They cannot represent people in court. The Clerk`s Mutual Legal Assistance Centres provide affordable legal aid with court forms and documents to people who do NOT have a private lawyer. “Prose” means “for oneself” or “in one`s own name”, as in the pursuit of legal proceedings without a lawyer. We have a panel of very dedicated volunteer lawyers in the St. Petersburg/Pinellas County which are available to provide free legal representation in many types of civil cases such as bankruptcy, family law (including divorce, alimony and child custody), housing (including foreclosures and landlord-tenant issues), inheritance and criminal record suppression. Consultation with the mutual aid lawyer is limited to using court-approved forms and procedural information.
A meeting with a self-help lawyer is not intended to establish a lawyer-client relationship. If more detailed legal advice is needed, it is best to contact your own lawyer. The Community Law program offers a variety of free civil law services to low-income residents of Pinellas County, Florida. In addition to the services described on this page, we offer a variety of special projects to support certain disadvantaged population groups, which are described on our Special Projects page.
