The Gazette of India is a public newspaper and an authorized legal document of the Government of India,[1] published weekly by the Department of Publications, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. As a public magazine, the Gazette prints official government communications. The Official Gazette is printed by the Press of the Government of India. [2] The publication of the Official Gazette is carried out in accordance with the Government of India (Attribution of Trade Rules), which is published from time to time by the Cabinet Secretariat. The Publications Division is headed by the Publications Controller, assisted by two Assistant Controllers, a Finance Officer and a Deputy Director. The Gazette employs more than 270 people under the supervision of the Ministry of Urban Development, based in Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi. The Ordinary Official Journals are published regularly each week on a specific day of the week, while the Extraordinary Official Journals are published daily, depending on the urgency of the matters to be notified. Official gazettes are the main sources of law published by national governments to disseminate new laws, regulations and decisions of government agencies.
