Even if a person were able to register a UTV in this way, mini-trucks in Ohio are far from fully road legal, as they are limited to roads with speed limits of 35 miles per hour or less, specifically approved for mini-trucks by local ordinances. A UTV registered as a mini-truck in Ohio is also subject to different laws in other states, making it difficult or impossible to travel across state borders. West Virginia counties in the Hatfield-McCoy system allow registered PHEVs to access retail stores, restaurants, hotels, and ORV traders on certain roads, and West Virginia only allows ORVs on two-lane roads. Those that have a center line and more than two lanes are illegal, except for the purpose of crossing this road. UTVs and ATVs can also travel on the emergency lane of roads to connect paths. All UTVs and ATVs must be equipped with at least one headlight and taillight for better visibility and safety, whether they operate after sunset or not. Only lifeguards are allowed to operate an ORV on a public road, and ATVs can only carry one passenger if the machine is designed for more than one person. As more states seek to attract ORV tourism to boost the local economy, such as West Virginia with its Hatfield-McCoy trail system and Utah with its Paiute trail system, many of these states are adopting more lenient regulations for licensing UTVs and ATVs for limited road use. Other states with agricultural economies treat UTVs and ATVs as agricultural vehicles, but urban areas generally do not allow road use of UTVs and ATVs. Let`s look at the requirements and limitations for the use of UTVs and ATVs on roads in Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

Ohio defines a general purpose vehicle as “any autonomous vehicle designed primarily for land and sea travel, or over more than one type of terrain, and controlled by wheels.” This broad category includes everything from ATVs and off-road motorcycles to UTVs and side-by-sides. Not everything that fits the description of a multi-purpose vehicle can be registered as a legal driver`s license in Ohio. The Revised Ohio Code 4519.20 sets out requirements for snowmobiles, off-road vehicles and general purpose vehicles that must have at least one service light and one taillight at a distance of 500 feet under normal conditions. PHEVs must be equipped with an effective silencer that limits noise and smoke. Drivers must have a valid driver`s license and persons under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 18 years old. The short answer is no, you`re not allowed to hunt in Ohio with an ATV or UTV.

You are prohibited from carrying firearms, bows or any other hunting equipment on board an ATV or UTV unless they are unloaded and locked up safely. In addition, PHEVs can only operate at 25 mph or less. West Virginia code SS 17F-1-6 does not apply to commercial ATVs used in agriculture, oil and gas operations, lumber construction, surveying, or utilities. PHEVs must have a title, muffler and spark arrestor, and drivers under 18 years of age must have a safety certificate. Continuing our series of articles analyzing ATV laws in each state that emerged from this article, this article examines ATV laws in Ohio. While Tennessee is working to attract VHR tourism dollars like West Virginia, the state has yet to show leniency in operating PHEVs on Tennessee`s arteries. Commercial vehicles are used in agriculture, construction and some other industries On other roads only during the declared state of emergency, special rules apply to the islands of Lake Erie. PHEVs can be used between November 1 and 13. April on all roads, including federal highways, restricted highways and highways, provided all traffic rules are followed, the driver has a valid driver`s license, the vehicle is properly equipped, and the owner provides proof of financial responsibility for on-road and off-road use of the vehicle.
